Lima’s most emblematic hotel Sheraton Lima Historic Center celebrates 50 years

The first international chain hotel in Peru and the first five-star hotel, it has hosted renowned international personalities and is part of the history of the City of Kings.

LIMA, PERU – A pioneer in the country’s hotel industry, the Sheraton Lima Historic Center is celebrating 50 years of being part of the history of the Peruvian capital. Its inauguration in March 1973 represented a milestone for Peru, as it was the first international chain hotel and the first five-star hotel to open its doors.

Throughout its extensive history, the hotel has evolved and adapted to the demands of travelers who choose it as their "home away from home" during vacations or business trips, adhering to the values of the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts brand, which is currently undergoing a major transformation, creating an exclusive community experience for the next generation of travelers, foreigners, and locals alike, at properties around the world.

“It is a great honor for us to celebrate Sheraton Lima’s 50th anniversary, a milestone in the hotel’s history and a testament to our commitment to excellence and exceptional hospitality. Throughout these years, we have had the privilege of hosting countless guests and memorable events, and we are excited to continue to do so for many more years to come. We thank all our collaborators and clients for their support and trust in us and look forward to continuing to be a destination of reference in the city of Lima,” commented Mariano Formariz, General Manager of Sheraton Lima Historic Center.

Sheraton Lima Historic Center is today an icon of the City of Kings. Throughout its 50 years, it has become the place that brings the beauty of Lima to those who visit the city, whether for pleasure or business. Many have had the opportunity to be part of the history of this urban oasis; world leaders, artists, athletes and even heads of state from all continents have stayed at this imposing hotel on different occasions. Pele, Maradona, Lupita Ferrer, Jose Luis Rodriguez “El Puma”, Celia Cruz and Miguel Bose, are some of the personalities who have paraded through its corridors and enjoyed its rooms, which offer a privileged view of the Palace of Justice of Peru.

Located in the Historic Center and only a few meters from Lima’s main tourist, cultural and historical attractions, the hotel comprises a 70-meter-high building designed by renowned architects J. Malachowski B. and Edward Durell Stone & Associates. Its construction began in the late 1960s and was completed in the early 1970s, making it one of the most dazzling works of its time. Its height, together with the Lima Tower of the Civic Center, dominated the city’s landscape.

Sheraton Lima Historic Center consists of 20 floors that house 437 rooms, including 20 suites. Its facilities include a rooftop pool and fitness center on the 3rd floor, three restaurants and a bar. In its main restaurant, the hotel pays tribute to the world-renowned Peruvian cuisine, offering Creole recipes that delight palates around the world, and in its bar the iconic Pisco Sour, as well as other signature cocktails.

As far as its meeting rooms are concerned, the hotel has one of the largest convention centers in the country where events and conferences of companies, embassies and multilateral organizations have been held. Also, its halls have become part of the tradition of Lima families who have celebrated weddings of different generations with rigorous tradition.

Sheraton Lima Historic Center, a unique reference, has managed to stand tall and proud, and is currently working on its next project, a major renovation process of some of its areas, where technology and sustainability together with an intuitive design will be its main protagonists.

The hotel continues to provide a service at the height of its 5 stars, generating memorable experiences that manage to blur the lines between leisure and business; this together with the passion for service that moves the hotel’s collaborators.

Always with excellence as a flag, it combines the warmth of treatment, with the rigor and seriousness that comes with the support of belonging to Marriott International, as well as the award-winning Marriott Bonvoy travel program.
