Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, urged the government to take a disciplined approach to future safety regulatory changes and build on the industry’s solid foundation of increased accessibility to available operational data in order to further our extraordinary safety record.
"We operate at a higher level of safety because we have become much better at identifying and managing risk and the demonstrated effectiveness of our safety systems, which gives us the confidence to undertake change, when warranted," said A4A Senior Vice President for Safety, Security and Operations Thomas L. Hendricks, who testified before the House Aviation Subcommittee.
Hendricks cautioned that all who are involved in aviation safety need to realize the importance of sticking to this disciplined approach, "We must resist the temptation to tinker with the safety system, lest we disturb what we have accomplished – and the benefits of that to our passengers and crew members."
