IACA announces S7 Airlines as new member airline

S7 Airlines has the largest route network within Russia and is based at three large air transport hubs: Moscow (Domodedovo) and Novosibirsk (Tolmachevo).

S7 Airlines has  joined IACA (International Air Carrier Association) as a full member. The airline has regular flights to the countries of the CIS, Europe, the Near East, South-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

The airline began in 1957, with the first civil flight from a military airport in Novosibirsk, by the Tolmachevo united air group; Sibir Airlines was founded on that group. Since 2005 Sibir Airlines has operated under the brand S7 Airlines. The airline carried 5.1 million passengers in 2011.

Welcoming S7 Airlines to IACA, the association’s Director General, Sylviane Lust, said: “We are delighted that S7 Airlines is joining IACA. Russia is a hugely important aviation market and following the recent aviation agreements between the EU and Russia, flights between destinations in Russia and Europe are increasing even more.

Given this, we are looking forward to working with the team at S7 Airlines to assist them with aeropolitical, operational and technical issues and accessing the European legislative process”, she continued.

S7 Airlines Director of Strategy, Vadim Besperstov, commented: “Thanks to the liberalization of the agreements between Russia and European countries, the number of flights made to the European Union is increasing each year.  We have to understand how changes in European legislation – such as the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, Single European Sky, and increasing competition between airports – could affect the operations of a Russian airline company. It is easier to find these solutions within the IACA framework”.
