The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) wishes to express its sympathy and condolences to the Spanish government and the people of Spain for the horrific events of 11/3. Over the past three years, the world and our industry has had to contend with challenges and tragedies like this and attempts by terrorists to put fear into our lives and take away our freedom to travel.

Nevertheless, to reiterate the sentiment of Rudolf Giuliani, former Mayor of New York, after September 11: We should continue to meet with our families and friends and to travel. Staying at home would just satisfy the goals of those who wish to destroy our civilization.

People have continued to travel and we are confident that the research announced by WTTC earlier this week at the London Stock Exchange, which indicates a robust recovery for the industry, will hold firm.

Since the atrocities in New York, Hong Kong, Bali, Casablanca and Nairobi, these places have never been so full of life and energy. We expect Madrid and Spain to follow in these footsteps.
