Milan Bergamo Airport announce exceptional operational results, with 2023 becoming the busiest year on record and marking a significant recovery and expansion on pre-pandemic operations. The airport has experienced unprecedented growth, welcoming over 15 million travellers in a single year for the first time, and solidifying its position as a key gateway to the region.
During 2023, Milan Bergamo Airport handled 15,974,386 passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 24.4% and an improvement of 15.3% on the previous record achieved in 2019. The total number of flight operations stood at 101,696, up 14.5% year-on-year and 6.6% on 2019. This surge in figures reflects the airport’s attractiveness to a diverse range of travellers, from leisure tourists to business professionals.
Milan Bergamo Airport expanded its route network throughout 2023, introducing new destinations and enhancing connectivity. This strategic approach has not only catered to the growing demand for travel but has also strengthened the airport’s global reach. Furthermore, it resulted in over 100,000 yearly aircraft movements, the first time the threshold has been reached.
Flydubai, Georgian Airways, Norwegian and Cabo Verde Airlines joined the growing list of carriers serving Milan Bergamo Airport in 2023. Partners including Ryanair, Air Arabia, Volotea, Wizz Air, and Aeroitalia shored up their operations with increased frequencies on existing routes and the introduction of new destinations. More than 140 destinations were served in 2023 from Milan Bergamo Airport in 42 countries by 25 scheduled airlines.
Looking ahead, Norwegian will reinforce its commitment to Milan Bergamo with the introduction of four new routes. Starting 16 January, the carrier will inaugurate two weekly flights to Tromso, while four weekly services to Copenhagen will be introduced from 31 March. On 18 May, the airline will commence two weekly operations to Stavanger, connecting Milan Bergamo Airport with southwestern Norway. Three weekly services to Helsinki will start on 2 June, operating alongside seasonal Oslo and Bergen operations launched last year.
