World Travel Market, WTM<.> has finalised the schedule for its challenging Environmental Awareness Day on November 15. Together with Green Globe<.>, the worldwide environmental management and awareness programme for the travel and tourism industry, the day is set to address many of the environmental, social, economic and cultural aspects of sustainable tourism.

Taking centre stage in the morning, broadcaster, travel and environmental journalist John Craven will be chairing what is set to be a dynamic debate – "The Green Dilemma: Preservation or Profit?"

Two Green Globe educational seminars will be run in the afternoon. WTM will be continuing last year's practice of recognising exhibitors who have made a sustained effort to improve their environmental practice over the year.

Those who meet three of World Travel Market's ten point policy declaration of good environmental practice will receive a Green Tick alongside their stand and in the exhibition catalogue. Making an impact at Environmental Awareness Day this year is The Tour Operators Initiative for Sustainable Development supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations Scientific, Cultural and Education Organisation (UNESCO).

The Tour Operators Initiative aims to respond to international agendas while creating a platform to exchange ideas and develop projects of common interest. They will outline some of the best practices introduced to date, demonstrating their commitment to apply sustainable development principles in their operations with suppliers, contractors and customers. World Travel Market takes place at Earls Court, London from November 13-16, 2000.
