Abercrombie & Kent Villas reveals their Best of the Best Chalets for 2014.

Best Chalets for Foodies

  • Chalet Iergl, Italy: Right in the centre of San Cassiano, this beautifully restored farmhouse is a historic landmark and the perfect launchpad for a gourmet sweep of the Dolomites. Part of the 5* luxury Hotel Rosa Alpina, it’s ideal for sampling the superb restaurants of Alta Badia, including the award-laden 2 Michelin star St Hubertus within the hotel.
  • Chalet Grace, Switzerland: Even by Zermatt standards, Chalet Grace is incredible. A designer gem with unrivalled views of the Matterhorn through floor-to-ceiling glass walls, this is the place to savour culinary pyrotechnics created by the chalet’s brilliant Michelin star chef. For a bit of variety, Zum See, one of the world’s top mountain restaurants is just a snowflake away.
  • Chalet Trois Couronnes, Switzerland: The perfect glamour party pad, Chalet Trois Couronnes is Verbier’s largest and chicest eco-friendly home from home. A masterpiece in every way, it’s the ideal entertaining chalet with a vaulted art gallery and banqueting hall in which to enjoy the chef’s epicurean treats before retiring to the cheese, wine and cigar room.

Best Chalets for Adventure

  • San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge, Italy: Quite simply one of the most outstanding properties in Europe, San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge lies in a 42 acre estate, surrounded by jaw-dropping views and providing endless opportunities for get up and goers with a helipad for easy access to the piste, a private 19 hole golf course, plunge pool, countless hilltop village forts to explore and more…
  • Chalet Amazon Creek, France: This fantastic chalet has a pool, jacuzzi, spa and cinema. And then there’s all the adrenalin-charged outdoor fun of Chamonix on the doorstep. Mont Blanc to play on. Glacier trekking and ice-climbing. Canyoning and via ferrata. Mountain biking, Alpine mountaineering and white water rafting or gentle Heidi-esque mountain activities for the less gung ho.
  • Chalet Montana, France: Voted ‘Best Chalet in the Alps’ by the Sunday Times, this super-chic pad is ski in ski out just centimetres off the famous black run, La Face. If that doesn’t get the heart pumping fast enough, there’s the white knuckle thrill of 4WD ice driving to test the nerves before unwinding in the chalet’s huge indoor plunge pool and gazing at those sensational mountain views.

Best Chalets for Romance

  • Chalet Le Ti, Switzerland: Aaah, this is the perfect snuggle up chalet, with comfy sofas, open fires, heavenly views and full size Jo Malone goodies for candlelit baths. Hop onto a helicopter for a glamorous glacier picnic for two, with hand carved ice tables, fur rugs and champagne for a romantic interlude never to be forgotten.
  • Chalet Petite Marmotte, France: This dreamy little mini chalet is just perfect for love birds. Once a hayloft, it has been transformed by one of Courchevel’s premier architects into an idyllic ski-in ski-out bolthole that just begs for snowy evenings in front of the fire.
  • Chalet Baby Bear, France: Whoever said small is beautiful was right. This picture postcard chalet does cosy at its best, with all the luxuries of its bigger brothers as well as a hot tub outside for unwinding under the stars.

Best Chalets for Spas/Relaxation

  • Chalet Norte, Switzerland: Recommended for the second year running with good reason, this Verbier sensation has one of the largest and most luxurious private spas in the Alps. There’s an 11m indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows, a waterfall, relaxation area, hammam, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, sauna and massage rooms as well as a cinema, bar and wine cave. Bliss.
  • Chalet Zermatt Peak, Switzerland: This is the hottest spot for chilling out in style. After some of the best skiing in Europe, unwind in the wellness centre with a sauna or steam bath followed by a relaxing soak in the jacuzzi or a soothing massage. Or go for gold in the gym if there’s energy to spare.
  • Chalet Marco Polo, France: With an entire floor dedicated to wellness and pampering, why bother with Val d’Isere’s spectacular skiing? There’s a spa manager, a huge pool and hot tub flooded with natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows, a sauna and a relaxation area, complete with a state of the art entertainment system. Oh, and best of all, there’s also two hours of complimentary massage every day.

Best Chalets for Families

  • Chalet Tivoli Lodge, Switzerland: This designer yet family-friendly Davos chalet offers great entertaining space, a spa complex, an incredible multi-storey soft play gym for up to 20 little ones and a fully equipped home cinema for the not so little ones. Great for all ages.
  • Chalet Maria Schnee, Austria: Bunk beds are cool. Just a hop, skip and a jump to the nursery slopes and ski schools, Chalet Maria Schnee in St Anton is fab for children, with a huge playroom that can be converted into a cinema, a nanny bedroom and two brilliant bunk rooms – one for the boys and one for the girls.
