SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The popular Comfort Inn hotel in San Juan, franchised by Choice Hotels International, Inc., is optimistic about increased business from the Caribbean market in 2014 as regional carriers expand and upgrade.
Seaborne Airlines continues to expand its operations and fill the void left by American Eagle at the San Juan hub, but Azmina Mawani, general manager of the Comfort Inn San Juan also has her eyes on Caribbean air carrier LIAT and its recent upgrade.
“What’s happening with LIAT as it transitions from the ageing Dash 8 fleet to the brand new ATR aircraft can only augur well for small hoteliers like us,” said Mawani, who asserted that intra-regional customers are key to the survival of the Caribbean’s small hotels.
“The intra-regional market is very important to small hotels like ours,” she declared. “Regional airlines, from Cape Air to Seaborne and LIAT, help boost tourism and trade between the islands, and we are grateful for their efforts to improve lift while upgrading their customer service.”
Comfort Inn San Juan extends affordable rates to its guests, offering close proximity to shopping malls, business hubs and medical complexes. The hotel is located in the popular Condado district of San Juan, one block from the Atlantic Ocean, and close to the Port of San Juan in Old San Juan, the historic Old San Juan and its cobblestone streets, the El Morro fortress (Castillo de San Felipe del Morro), and hundreds of buildings dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
La Concha Casino is two blocks from the hotel, while high-end souvenir shops, restaurants and vibrant nightlife experiences are also within walking distance. The trendy Condado Beach area is close to popular attractions such as the Casa Bacardi factory tour and the San Juan Cathedral (Catedral de San Juan). Additionally, the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is five miles away and the largest mall in the Caribbean, Plaza Las Americas, boasting more than 300 shops and services, is close by.
The popular hotel, which is continually upgrading its facilities, offers air-conditioned guest rooms, cable television with free HBO, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards. Some rooms feature ocean views.
