Despite the fact that it represents one of the newest deluxe hotels in Athens, having started its operation just in 1982, the Athenaeum
Undertaking a significant renovation program, representing an investment of 23,500,000 Euro, which commenced in 1995 and which will be completed in the year 2003, the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens aims to maintain its leading position in the hotel map of Athens, and to continue meeting the needs of the most discerning business and leisure travellers, as well as the ever increasing demands of conference and banqueting organisers.
The investments which have been realised from 1995 to date, include among others:
- the establishment of the Athenaeum Conference Centre
- the development of Club InterContinental – on the hotel`s 8th and 9th floors – which includes 61 rooms, 18 suites, a private registration area, a dedicated lounge and specially appointed rooms for meetings of up to six people
- the full refurbishment of 543 rooms and of the hotel`s deluxe and Presidential suites
- the full redecoration and refurbishment of the Athenaeum Ballroom, one of the largest function rooms in Greece, as well as of its adjoining rooms and generally of the entire floor on which the Ballroom is located.
The program is progressing rapidly and by March 2003 we expect the completion of a radical renovation for:
- the Pergola restaurant which will be redesigned by the world renowned restaurant designer Toni Chi and operate under a new name
- the hotel entrance, reception and public area
- the Cafe Vienna located in the lobby
- the Aphrodite function room
The last phase of the renovation program, which is expected to be completed by mid 2003, includes the complete remodelling of the Premiere restaurant on the hotel`s 10th floor.
With the completion of this extensive renovation program, the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens aspires to successfully face the challenge presented by the 2004 Olympic Games and to continue to offer the highest levels of comfort, quality and service to its guests.
