Inaugural meeting of the Qatar Hotels Committee

The inaugural meeting of the Qatar Hotels Committee was recentrly at the St Regis Doha with an aim to enable the tourism and hospitality industries in the country grow and develop ahead of the World Cup in 2022.

Chaired by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Chairman Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, the committee comprises of the general managers and representatives of the country’s four and five star hotels along with senior representatives from the QTA.

Importantly, the new committee will serve to offer professional guidance to the QTA about important issues affecting the country’s hotel sector. The new committee aims to promote cooperation between the QTA, the tourism industry and hotel sector as well as enable a coordinated approach to the growth of the industry in Qatar.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Al Nuaimi said the committee was the result of two years of efforts to bring all the parties together. The Committee’s work will be to enable the tourism and hotels sectors to achieve the aims and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 while also creating a uniform set of policies for the industry.

“There is an urgent need for this cooperation in light of the current rapid development of tourism in the country,” he said. “This requires the hotel sector to move from their traditional role of receiving guests, to a one that sees them more effectively and actively contribute to the evolution and development of the tourism sector.

“As an entity, this committee will seek to collaboratively take appropriate decisions about the development cohesive strategies and plans for the tourism sector,” Mr. Al Nuaimi told the committee. “It will also share the marketing and promotion of Qatar’s tourism offerings including incentive prices to attract travelers to Qatar. Further, we will work to collaboratively set hotel room rates for the country and work together to encourage young Qataris to choose a career in hospitality and help train them.”

The committee will also seek to:
– Protect the local hotels’ interest and preserve their rights
– Cooperate and coordinate with QTA in all areas related to developing tourism in the country
– Collect all information and tourist statistics and classifications and provide it to concerned authorities
– Participate and organize conferences, meetings, seminars, and tourism exhibitions inside and outside the country
– Participate with Qatar Tourism Authority and stakeholders in training the personnel, who are working in the hotel facilities and support this sector
– Participate in the marketing and promotion of tourism locally and internationally
– Create an overarching policy for the hotel sector in Qatar
– Advise the QTA on the most important issues affecting hotels in Qatar.
