Jorgen Jorgensen, has been appointed by InterContinental Hotels Group as General Manager of the InterContinental Dubai.

The world’s global hotel operator announced Mr Jorgensen’s new appointment at the hotel, following his previous posting as General Manager of the InterContinental Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus.

After working within the hotel industry for more than 30 years, Mr Jorgensen brings a wealth of experience to his new role having held managerial positions at properties across the world, including the UK, America, Indonesia, Europe and now the Middle East.

The Danish father-of-two attributes his career success to a neighbour’s words, saying, “It was a wise neighbour, who always was right in what they said, told me I would fit right into the hotel industry. I know I took the right decision – it’s not because I have to do the job, it’s because I love it.”

After working with InterContinental Hotels Group for 10 years, Jorgensen is a strong believer in the InterContinental brand and is looking forward to taking on his new role at the landmark property, which this year celebrated its 30th anniversary of providing 5-star service to visitors, making it the longest serving 5-star property in the country.

Jorgensen will be replacing Tom Meyer who has been promoted to Area General Manager Dubai Festival City overseeing the Group’s new InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotels due to open in Festival City in 2007.

Originally from Sydney, Australian-born Meyer brings over 20 years experience in senior management with InterContinental Hotels Group to the position. “Meyer exceeded our expectations at InterContinental Dubai and continued to drive the business forward, growing the hotel’s market share through innovative marketing strategies whilst strengthening relationships with existing guests and partners,” exuded Anthony Liddiard, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Dubai and Director of Operations for InterContinental Hotels Group in the UAE and Qatar. “With Meyer and Jorgensen at the helm of three of our flagship properties in Dubai, the Group is confident in our growing and continued success in this region.”

Speaking about Jorgensen overseeing operations one of the region’s most premier properties, Chris Moloney, Chief Operating Officer, InterContinental Hotels Group, Middle East and Africa, said: “At InterContinental Hotels Group we are dedicated to delivering quality and service and with the vast experience the Mr Jorgensen brings, we are committed to continue to exceed the expectations of our guests at all times.”

Due to the hotel’s prime location, the InterContinental Dubai has witnessed the phenomenal growth of Dubai and the amazing changes made as it seeks to establish itself as one of the premier cities in the world.

“This hotel has established itself as a cornerstone within the industry and has gained respect in the community with its services and staff, which are fantastic and have kept the InterContinental spirit that guests are used to,” said Jorgensen.
