Le Bristol Paris reimagines its signature Azur Terrace Suite in collaboration with Agnès Sandahl

Boasting an expansive terrace that overlooks the hotel’s elegant courtyard garden, the Azur Suite has been spectacularly redecorated with creative direction by Vallauris, France based artist Agnès Sandahl.

One of the most exceptional accommodations in Paris thanks to its 115 square metre tree-lined terrace, the Azur Suite has been entirely redefined to showcase the creative universe of French artist Agnès Sandahl against a backdrop of elegant interior decoration by the hotel’s owners, Narcisa and Elvira Oetker. A long-time collaborator and friend of Oetker Collection who has produced bespoke tableware collections and other works of art for Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc and Château Saint-Martin & Spa, Agnès Sandahl brings her distinctive style to Le Bristol Paris for the very first time with this exclusive development.

Art everywhere you look

Invited by the Oetker sisters-in-law to fully immerse herself in the environment before returning home to begin her creative work, Agnès Sandahl spent three full days and nights in the Azur Terrace Suite. The artist was able to dance freely from room to room, absorbing the location’s unique vibrations to create her commissioned works that can be viewed from every room.

Inside the suite, three Agnès Sandahl paintings join a beautifully imposing, glistening fresco crafted by the artist using Chinese ink and gold leaf.

“For the Azur Terrace Suite fresco, I wanted to create a dreamlike environment, filled with the joy of love and music. I chose to add gold leaf so that every moment of the day glows differently in the work. It can be glimpsed from practically every part of the suite,” explains Agnès Sandahl.

A step outside the suite’s exterior doors takes one to the majestic terrace that is hidden from view but acts as an elevated extension of Le Jardin Français below. Many of the plants and flowers that adorn Le Bristol’s courtyard garden are featured, including Lily of the Nile, roses, jasmine and wisteria. For this privileged environment, Agnès Sandahl has created a custom ceramic fountain and a ceramic tabletop designed to comfortably accommodate six people. The art of ceramic is part of the intangible heritage of the southern French village of Vallauris, where the artist keeps her studio and eponymous gallery.

“We designed the terrace as a private garden and Agnès Sandahl added the twist to the space by putting art and nature in perfect harmony,” states Narcisa Oetker.

Soft, contemporary interiors

Located on the hotel’s 5th floor, the Azur Terrace Suite boasts 100 square metres of indoor space, all beautifully bathed in natural light. For the interior decoration, Narcisa and Elvira Oetker have employed a colour palette of soft blues, gentle greys and beige, freeing the abundance of light to reflect off the Sandahl artworks, the solid oak Herringbone parquet floor, the wall coverings by Phillip Jeffries and the precious interior fabrics and accessories by Loro Piana, Pierre Frey and Schumacher. New lighting fixtures by Vaughan offer a contemporary feel whilst the replacement of curtains by Japanese shades on the French doors leading to the terrace adds a hint of refined eclecticism.

“Our mantra is to keep the classic DNA of Le Bristol. Our mother-in-law Maja Oetker taught us the timeless style and we are adding a bit of contemporary touch,” explains Elvira Oetker.
