New Design hotels in Antalya, Zurich and Warsaw

The international hotel cooperation Design hotels is delighted to announce three new openings for this summer; each with its own unique style concept. The differing designs of these new member hotels illustrate design hotels’ commitment to the support of individual hotel philosophies, and offer architectonic answers to the environment of each property.

Hillside Su Hotel, Antalya, Turkey:

At the beginning of the summer season, in June 2003, Hillside Su opened its doors in the Turkish beach resort of Antalya. It surprised with a fresh style mix of purist white and a grand, all-encompassing club atmosphere. The Turkish architect, Eren Talu, presented an astounding play on details and dimension, with elements such as the six over-sized disco glitterballs that dominate the bright white lobby. In the evening, these reflect thousands of light effects through the six-story high entrance hall. Orange trees and lined up in the glass front of the lobby, almost as if stacked on a huge shop shelf, adding a light living touch to the cool clarity of the construction, where straight lines are dissolved into illusion by the frequent use of mirrors.

The hotel’s 300 rooms are also spacious in feel and in fact, each one containing at least two large beds, one of which is to be found on the balcony. Frivolous touches are added by a goldfish bowl, lava lamps and a maxi bar, which contains not only double the content of a normal mini bar, but also contains such useful extras as playing cards and disposable cameras. The hotel’s pool continues the over-sized trend, measuring 56 metres in length. The only small thing about Hillside Su is the way to the beach – just a few steps from the hotel park, where guests can enjoy a view of the city’s skyline and teh often snow-capped mountains inland to the west.

Hotel Greulich, Zurich, Switzerland:

The Hotel Greulich opened its doors in Zurich in July. The hotel’s name is taken from the Swiss social reformer, Hermann Greulich, and the Hermann-Greulich-Strasse named after him in Zurich’s city centre, where the hotel is located. The slick, modern hotel, complete with zen-inspired beech copse in its courtyard, was designed by local architects Romero & Schaefle and brings new life to the site of an old workshop. The Hotel Greulich has been conceived as a pool of seclusion and peace for business travellers, and offers just 18 minimalist junior suites and rooms, all constructed with a view to the courtyard. The rooms’ colour design has been directed by Swiss designer, Jean Pfaff, well known for his monochrome paintings.
The hotel’s public spaces, including the bar-lounge and banquette room, all share a reduced late-seventies feel. Head chef, David Martinez Salvany, serves modern slow food menues, fitting with the hotel’s philosophy.

Hotel Rialto, Warsaw, Poland:

Following a period of soft-opening, the Hotel Rialto, in Poland’s capital city Warsaw, will officially begin business in mid-September. The property hails from the turn of the last century, and has accordingly been remodelled in an Art Deco style. The hotel’s owners have gathered an endless collection of original furniture from the 1920’s, and have used these pieces to individually furnish the hotel’s 56 rooms and suites, the restaurant and bar. Replicas of design classics from the period and rooms decorated with dark wood tones, Art Deco fabrics, lamps and accessories lend the property a touch of the epoch in which Warsaw counted among Europe’s most important economic centres. Today, Poland counts as one of Eastern Europe’s emerging markets, and is being visited by growing numbers of business travellers, that make up the core target group of this hotel. The Hotel Rialto’s technical facilities, as well as the exclusive atmosphere of the hotel bar, cigar lounge and library, are all geared up to the demands of this group.
