RVs and campsites are on the rise: Pandemic travel survey

These days, many travelers would rather hit the road than risk traveling on plane.

To explore road trip trends emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, VacationRenter surveyed 1,000 people that have taken a road trip during the pandemic. They found that:

  • 66% of people intend to take more road trips in the future; people have taken an average of 3 trips since the start of the pandemic and plan to take at least 1 more before the end of the year
  • Staying Close to Home: People are traveling roughly 70 miles less and 2 hours less during trips compared to before the pandemic
  • The most popular state destinations are California (#1), Texas (#2), New York (#3), Florida (#4), and Arizona (#5)
  • The most desired landscapes were woods/forest (40%) followed by beaches (39%), city/urban areas (38%), mountains (37%), and national parks (36%)
  • Nearly 1 in 5 travelers stayed at a campsite (19%), their car (17%), or an RV (16%) during their most recent travel.
