Spain reigns for summer 2018 as Croatia continues to rise, reveals Novasol

Of the top five most popular destinations, Croatia, which has been tipped by many to become a new favourite amongst Brits over the last few years, has seen the biggest increase in last minute bookings.

Research into booking data at Novasol, Europe’s largest provider of self-catering holiday homes has revealed the Spanish Mainland as the most popular ‘hotspot’ for Britons booking last minute holidays to the sun but it’s Croatia which has seen the biggest rise in bookings.

Booking statistics at the self-catering holiday homes provider reveals Costa Calida, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca as the top three most popular summer sun destinations with the sun-kissed Croatian resorts of Pula and Trogir grabbing fourth and fifth place respectively.

Of the top five most popular destinations, Croatia, which has been tipped by many to become a new favourite amongst Brits over the last few years, has seen the biggest increase in last minute bookings, with Novasol witnessing a massive increase of 37% over the same period last year.

The research also revealed a massive increase in late bookings to resorts across Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast with Split and Omis proving more popular than ever amongst British holidaymakers.

  • Costa Calida (Spain)
  • Costa del Sol (Spain)
  • Costa Blanca (Spain)
  • Pula (Croatia)
  • Trogir (Croatia)

Outside of the top five most popular destinations for self-catering holidays, Italy is showing significant growth, up 51% year on year, whilst sales of self-catering holidays to France is also outselling last year, up 36% on the previous year.

Whilst Spain looks to dominate in terms of overall arrivals, Central Europe is also proving popular as Britons look to discover new and exciting destinations over the summer period.

Booking data reveals sales of self-catering holiday homes in countries such as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are up 56% on 2017.

Alex Stuart, General Manager at Novasol comments: “Once again Spain, with its guaranteed sun and beautiful resorts is the most popular destination amongst last minute bookers but our data suggests that 2018 could be the year when Croatia finally becomes a top choice for British holidaymakers.”
