Croatia named most popular summer sun destination for self-catering holidays, reveals Novasol

Split, Croatia.

Croatia overtakes Spain as number one destinations for Brits this summer season.

Tipped to become a hot spot for British holidaymakers for years to come, booking data at Novasol, Europe’s largest provider of self-catering holiday homes has revealed Croatia as the most popular destination for self-catering holidays this summer sun season, with bookings up 20% on 2017.

Following the busiest booking period of the year, Novasol found Spain, which has held the number one spot for sun-seeking Brits for many years, is the second most popular summer sun destination this year with booking up 5% on the previous year.

Research conducted by Novasol also revealed that whilst France is the third most popular destination for self-catering holidays this year, it has witnessed a massive surge in bookings, up 52% on the previous year.

Italy is the fourth most popular hot spot amongst British holidaymakers this summer, with bookings up a whopping 43%, whilst Scandinavian holidays are proving more popular than ever, with bookings of self-catering holidays to Denmark up 10%.

Whilst Spain and its islands lost the top spot for summer holidays, the ever-popular destination retained top spot for holidays outside of the peak summer sun season, with France the second most popular destination.

However, whilst many Britons are jetting off to warmer climes outside of the summer season, booking data at Novasol has revealed a significant rise in bookings to Scandinavia with Denmark and Sweden proving particularly popular.

Alex Stuart, General Manager at Novasol comments: “The industry has been tipping Croatia as the next big thing for the last few years and our booking data shows that during the busy January booking period, 2018 is set to be a very big year for the destination in terms of tourist numbers.”

“Bookings of our self-catering holiday homes for travel this this summer are up 22% on the previous year and up 12% across the whole year and if, as we expect, this trend continues throughout the year, it’s going to be a very successful year for the travel industry.”
