STR’s September 2016 Pipeline Report shows 159,127 rooms in 555 projects Under Contract in the Middle East and 56,858 rooms in 303 projects Under Contract in Africa. Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

The Under Contract total in Africa represents an 8.3% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with September 2015. Specifically in the In Construction phase, Africa reported 29,006 rooms in 154 hotels, a 7.8% increase in year-over-year comparisons.
Among the countries in the Middle East and Africa, Saudi Arabia reported the most rooms In Construction with 36,545 rooms in 78 hotels. The United Arab Emirates followed with 26,552 rooms in 94 hotels. Two other countries each reported more than 5,000 rooms In Construction: Qatar (7,889 rooms in 33 hotels) and Egypt (5,800 rooms in 17 hotels).

STR’s September 2016 Pipeline Report shows 152,705 rooms in 1,016 projects Under Contract in Europe. The total represents a 17.5% increase in rooms Under Contract compared with September 2015. Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.
Europe reported 63,325 rooms in 426 projects In Construction for the month, which is a 19.4% increase in year-over-year comparisons.
Among Chain Scale segments, the Upper Midscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms Under Contract (27.9% with 42,601 rooms). The Upscale segment accounted for highest percentage of rooms In Construction (24.3% with 15,373 rooms).
