Study shows which world cities and regions offer the most and least expensive accommodation

Monte-Carlo, Monaco calculated as the most expensive accommodation.

Study ranks 200+ cities and regions on average price of overnight accommodation; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia tops list for most overall affordable accommodation in cities. German regions come out on top for affordable hotels, hostels, and campsites.

BERLIN, GERMANY – Campsite online booking platform Campsy has released a detailed study comparing the price of accommodation in over 200 cities and regions. The Index includes 1 to 5 star hotels, hostels, campsites, and peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodation services. Campsy undertook the research in order to better understand the overall landscape of the hospitality industry, as well as offer holidaymakers an in-depth view of which cities or regions may best suit their budget.

With P2P rental services and younger specialist platforms such as Campsy offering accommodation options, the research aims to shed some light on the rapidly changing marketplace.

“Though the bulk of travel takes place on a city-to-city basis, we are passionate about encouraging travellers to step outside urban areas and seek the unique experiences that nature has to offer,” says Campsy CEO Philipp Hillenbrand. “We hope that our research empowers readers to gain more from their holiday budget this summer, and perhaps encourage camping as their accommodation of choice.”
