Tasmania now has five-star hotel rooms following a major upgrade at the State`s best known property, Wrest Point, in Hobart.

The new suites – the only five-star hotel accommodation available in Hobart – are perched near the top of the famous Wrest Point tower, offering spectacular harbour views through huge panoramic windows running the entire length of the suites.

The spacious suites also feature king-sized beds, spas, marble bathrooms, Tasmanian art and rich furnishings made from quality Tasmanian timber.

A limited number of the upgraded rooms have been released with more of the suites coming on stream later this year and in 2004 to meet the growing demand for first class accommodation.

Our new suites at Wrest Point are the first five-star hotel rooms in Tasmania and have proved an instant success with honeymooners and executives, said Wrest Point general Manager David Christian.

The indulgence market is clearly a big and growing one and we aim to meet that growth with more superior five-star suites as soon as possible, Mr Christian said.

The new suites were officially awarded their benchmarking five-star status recently by the national tourism body of the Australian motoring organisations – AAA Tourism.

Owned by Tasmania`s largest accommodation provider, Federal Hotels and Resorts, the new-look Wrest Point Hotel offers 181 tower rooms with sweeping harbour and mountain views, fine dining restaurants including the acclaimed tower-top Point revolving restaurant, alfresco waterside dining, heated indoor pool, health club, nightclub and stylish bars and cafes.

To mark the launch of Wrest Point`s new five-star suites, Federal Hotels and Resorts is offering a special red carpet package.
