LONDON – A city trip for Christmas or New Year is always a welcome present, especially if the hotel or the city has a lot to offer. Where hotel guests receive the best value for money is demonstrated by the international booking portal hotel info in their survey based on the evaluations of their more than two million customers.
In a comparison of the largest cities in the United Kingdom Leeds has the best value for money (7.45 points of a maximum of 10.0). Sheffield with 7.38 points also scores well. On the other hand guests were less satisfied with the hotels in Coventry. The industrial city with its score of 5.81 points has considerable potential for improvement. Even expensive London with 6.35 points scored well in the index of value for money. Birmingham was awarded 6.52 points by the booking customers.

There are not only 6,500 kilometres between the international major cities Prague and New York but also their value for money are worlds apart. Whereas the hotels in the Czech capital (7.97 points) traditionally score with reasonable overnight prices and excellent service the Big Apple (5.95 points) is often known for small yet expensive rooms. Also in the hotels in Rio de Janeiro value for money does not seem to apply. With only 6.01 points the city at the foot of the Sugar Loaf Mountain occupies the penultimate position.
The ultimate tip for a city trip during the winter 2014-2015 is Lisbon. The Portuguese capital city offers particularly good value for money in its hotels with a score of 7.89 points. The city also spoils its guests with a mild climate and many attractive sights such as old fortresses and buildings, imposing churches or the Elevador de Santa Justa, a lift connecting two parts of the city.
