The Greek accommodation chain Grecotel<.> has once again taken the number one spot in a survey of holidaymakers who book through leading tour operator TUI.

Respondents to the survey commissioned by TUI, which handles bookings for 12,000 hotel units around the globe, picked Grecotel as their favoured place to stay when vacationing.

Grecotel owns 10 out of the world`s 100 top hotels. The group`s Creta Palace in Rethymno, Crete was recently voted the world`s best five-star hotel.

The TUI survey was conducted by an independent research firm and clients were questioned upon returning from their holiday.

In 1998-99, the TUI Group recorded an annual turnover of 14 billion marks compared to the previous year`s figure of 9.3 billion marks.

Pictured at the awards ceremony, held at the Russian embassy in Berlin, is, from right to left, TUI president Karl Born, Grecotel executive director Mari N. Daskalantonaki and Grecotel Creta Palace general manager Dimitris Kalaitzidakis.
