The new CEO’s priorities will be quality, regeneration and professionalism of the island’s tourism sector.

The tourism councillor and vice-president of the Tenerife Island Government, Lope Afonso, has appointed Dimple Melwani as Tenerife Tourism Corporation’s new CEO, replacing David Pérez as head of the organisation. Melwani, who was tourism councillor for the northern town of Puerto de la Cruz for five years, has her eyes on quality, regeneration and professionalism of Tenerife’s tourism sector.

Melwani, is well known in both the public and private tourism sectors, where she has worked for many years holding a variety of positions. These include her role as tourism councillor of Puerto de la Cruz 2015-2019, where she handled a variety of projects such as the Tourism Awareness Strategy and promoted the town as a new destination for honeymooners. Melwani also worked as head of the financial and quality department at Hotel Silken Atlántida in Santa Cruz; and as deputy director of retail franchise company, Grupo Número 1. Melwani holds a degree in Business Administration and several master’s, including one in Hotel Revenue Management from Cornell University (USA).

According to Afonso, Melwani’s appointment will “strengthen Tenerife’s position as a leading tourism destination and she will continue to work closely with all the partner members of the Tenerife Tourism Corporation.” Melwani added: “We must continue to focus on ensuring quality flourishes in all departments, such as in the regeneration of tourist areas, as well as in terms of professionalism, to encourage and increase tourist spend. The ultimate goal is that tourism, which is the sector with the greatest weight in GDP in the Canary Islands, can revert back to the economy of all islanders.”

The regeneration of the area affected by the recent wildfires on the island will be also one of Tenerife Tourism Corporation’s and Island Government’s priorities.

The new CEO said: “I am very grateful and excited about this new role, as I have always looked at Tenerife Tourism Corporation as the ‘house’ of the island’s tourism sector. It is a true honour to lead the organisation, which has a fully committed team working hard to keep Tenerife surprising visitors and awakening their senses every time they visit us.”

Both Afonso and Melwani thanked the work of the organisation’s predecessor, David Pérez, who was the head of the Tenerife Tourism Corporation for four years.
