Britons dreaming of a flight Christmas

Tenerife.

Britons to take off this season and abandon traditional UK festivities.

'Festive holidays' could soon have a whole new meaning, as over a third (38%) of Britons are abandoning the idea of a traditional UK Christmas this year, in search of warmer climates abroad.

According to MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, more than one in ten (13%) have even admitted that they are 'bored' of annual festive routines and would rather avoid the pressures of hosting family and friends.

Sheffield was dubbed the 'Scroogiest' city in the UK, with over half (56%) of residents shunning customary Christmas celebrations at home, instead opting for the idea of a sunny holiday abroad, closely followed by Southampton with 45% and Glasgow with 41%.

Cold British weather is also a reason for the exodus, with 30% of those booking winter sun holidays, doing so to escape frosty mornings.

One in ten (9%) UK residents stated they would consider winter sun getaways due to the impending darker days, which are set to worsen as the clocks go back this weekend. Not only that, but it seems the TOWIE effect is still in strong force, with one in ten (9%) of Brits booking to head off in winter just to get a great tan!

When asked where Britons will be escaping the UK to, Tenerife (30%) is the UK's most popular winter sun destination. Lanzarote (21%) and Florida (17%) follow and 21% of Brits would choose long-haul getaways in Australia or New Zealand.

1. Tenerife – 30%
2. Lanzarote – 21%
3. Florida – 17%
4. Gran Canaria – 15%
5. Australia – 13%
6. Dubai – 11%
7. Barbados – 9%
8. New Zealand – 8%

Chris Reilly, Managing Director for MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: "More Brits are flying to warmer climates over Christmas than ever before and spending more than they did in the summer. With over 76% of people booking holidays online nowadays, there are plenty of deals and offers to help keep more money in your pockets for those pina coladas."
