Air Malta’s new cabin crew get their wings

The wings ceremony is the culmination and celebration of the intense four week training course that all cabin crew have to complete before starting their flying career with Air Malta.

Air Malta has awarded its new group of cabin crew with their wings during a ceremony held at the airline’s training centre at Skyparks. This was the first ‘Wings Ceremony’ to be held by Air Malta in years. The wings ceremony is the culmination and celebration of the intense four week training course that all cabin crew have to complete before starting their flying career with Air Malta.

During the event Philip Saunders, Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer said, “Wings ceremonies are always special and it is with great pride that we again started organising such events to celebrate the success of our new cabin crew team members.”

Mr Saunders listed five key attributes that the new cabin crew must strive to achieve 1) excellent safety, 2) become the Ambassadors and guide to what the Maltese islands can offer, 3) provide a best in class warm and friendly service, 4) continuously self improve and, 5) take managerial responsibilities onboard.

“Every flight has a special meaning for our passengers. Some travel to visit friends and relatives who they may have not met in years, others travel for a holiday of a life time, others travel for business or for health reasons. It is thus important that as cabin crew you make each and every passenger feel special,” concluded Saunders.

All the new cabin crew previously held positions within the airline and were selected following an internal call for applications. The training instructors confirmed that this group was one of the best they had trained. Apart from being presented with their ‘wings’ and their license to operate as cabin crew, awards were also presented to the course top achiever.

Christopher Aquilina who scored an impressive average of 97% in the tests and exams and the most humorous course member, Violet Sciberras.

Martin Ferrando, Crew Training Post Holder, and the course instructors Joe Fava, Charles Abdilla, Godwin Grech, Oliver Magri, Joseph Camilleri and Christopher Gove`.
