airberlin
is focusing on further growth in the strategically important market of Spain and will start the year 2014 with a new connection between Dusseldorf and Madrid. From 13th January 2014, a nonstop flight will depart daily from the city on the Rhine to the Spanish capital.

“By expanding our route network on the Iberian Peninsula, we are strengthening our capabilities in Spain and demonstrating once again the importance of our core market there. In addition to the new nonstop flight from Dusseldorf, airberlin has been connecting Berlin and Madrid since February of this year. Business and holiday travellers alike benefit from this wide range of flight offers from Germany to the Spanish city”, said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO airberlin.

“airberlin is continuing to focus on the largest hub in North Rhine-Westphalia and expanding the Dusseldorf site with the daily flight to Madrid. The additional connection is an asset to the traffic between the Rhine-Ruhr region and the Spanish capital”, says Christoph Blume, spokesman for the Dusseldorf Airport management.

“We are pleased that airberlin will add additional flights between Dusseldorf and the Spanish capital Madrid to the schedule from the beginning of 2014. The daily flights will meet the increasing demand not only for holiday travel but also for business travel between the two cities”, said Alicia Lillo, director of the Spanish Tourist Office in Dusseldorf.

From 13th January 2014 airberlin will take off daily from Dusseldorf at 7:50 and land in Madrid at 10:15. The return flight departs from the Spanish capital at 11:10 and arrives in Dusseldorf at 13:40.

Also on 13th January 2014, the airberlin group will add a new nonstop flight between Vienna and Madrid. The flight will be operated by NIKI, the Austrian airline which belongs to the airberlin group, and will provide a daily connection between the two capital cities. In addition, from November 2013 airberlin will increase its frequencies between Berlin and Madrid, thus connecting the two cities twelve times per week. The opening of the two new routes, together with the increased frequencies between Berlin and Madrid, will set the course for further growth in Spain. All flights in the airberlin group take off and land in Madrid-Barajas’ Terminal 4, which is also used by the other airlines in the oneworld airline alliance.
