airberlin reaches high capacity utilization in October

Since airberlin is focusing on well-established routes and is increasing flight frequencies on these routes, the airline company reduced its available seat kilometers in October 2013 by 3.7 percent in yearly comparison, i.e. to 5.364 billion kilometers (previous year: 5.569 billion kilometers).

In October, airberlin again showed a very high capacity utilization and was able to welcome more passengers on board per flight. Capacity utilization over the entire airberlin flight route network amounted to 84.61 percent, thus slightly exceeding the level reached in the corresponding period of the previous year (84.49 percent). In total, airberlin welcomed 3,013,054 passengers on board for the month of October.

In the first ten months of 2013, airberlin, Germany’s second-largest airline company, was able to continuously increase its fleet capacity utilization by a total of 1.8 percentage points in yearly comparison, reaching the high level of 85.50 percent, and welcomed more than 27.709 million passengers on board. The available seat kilometers (ASK) amounted to 49.567 billion kilometers and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) amounted to 42.378 billion kilometers.

Due to the increase in fleet capacity utilization, the revenue passenger kilometers only decreased by 3.6 percent, i.e. to 4.538 billion kilometers (previous year: 4.705 billion kilometers).

For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK). For the purpose of a yearly comparison, the capacity utilization for 2012 was likewise calculated anew.

Also, airberlin celebrates 5 years of Berlin – Paris flights. To mark this anniversary, airberlin sought out the flight guests who had the most romantic stories between the two capital cities. Two guests were selected and today flew with airberlin to Paris, where they were eagerly awaited at Orly airport. Last year, Doris Franke from Berlin met Pascal, the love of her life, again after 35 years apart, and now commutes regularly between Berlin and Paris – preferably, of course, using the airline with a heart. Klaus Kronewitz was also able to embrace his long-term friend whom he first met on a school exchange in 1972.

airberlin currently flies twice a day on Mondays to Fridays from Berlin-Tegel to Paris-Orly and offers a total of twelve services a week.

airberlin is one of the leading airlines in Europe and flies to 151 destinations worldwide. The second largest airline in Germany carried more than 33 million passengers in 2012. airberlin offers a global route network through its strategic partnership with Etihad Airways, which has a 29.21% share in airberlin, and through membership of the oneworld® airline alliance. The airline with the award-winning service operates codeshare flights worldwide with 16 airlines. The fleet has an average age of five years and is among the most modern and eco-efficient in Europe.
