As host of the 28th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-28) scheduled October 21 – 26, the U.S. Virgin Islands enjoys a golden opportunity to showcase, yet again, the islands` undeniable charm. On October 24, the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism will welcome more than 700 delegates to St. Thomas during a vibrant Welcome Extravaganza featuring West Indian food, Quadrille dance, Mocko Jumbies, infectious Quelbe music, an internationally celebrated youth steelband and the U.S. Virgin Islands` renowned duty-free shopping.

As Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, I feel especially honored that the organization is hosting this important conference in the U.S. Virgin Islands, said Pamela C. Richards, Commissioner of Tourism. We look forward to maximizing this special occasion to showcase our islands` uniqueness to those who will be attending.

Scheduled to take place from 7- 10 p.m. at Havensight Mall, the Welcome Extravaganza will bring delegates together for an evening of full-scale, Virgin Islands-style entertainment. Arriving delegates will be met dockside by greeters dressed in traditional attire. The site will be transformed into a traditional West Indian village featuring numerous food & beverage stations, live music stages, local arts and crafts vendors and a Cruzan Rum Tasting booth. This lively and entertaining introduction to the U.S. Virgin Islands will be followed by a steelband welcome, Quadrille dancers, limbo and fire show and Mocko Jumbies. Delegates will be further immersed into the islands` culture through a mini-Carnival parade, a colorful showcase featuring 10 Carnival troupes, including Traditional Indians, Zulus, Baton Twirlers and the Virgin Islands Queens Caribbean Band.

CTC-28 brings together prominent travel industry leaders, travel agents, tourism officials and members of the media for the four-day forum to share ideas on technology, trends, marketing and communications.
