Autohellas-Manos deal

Autohellas Hertz<.>, Greece`s largest car hire company, has signed an initial agreement to purchase a majority stake in Greek tour operator Manos

Autohellas Hertz<.>, Greece`s largest car hire company, has signed an initial agreement to purchase a majority stake in Greek tour operator Manos.

Manos, established by Manos Tsatsakis, was set up in 1965 and is considered a leader in the field.

Each year it sends more than 50,000 clients abroad and ranks first in the organised tour market in Greece. The company has 40 sales points, called Manos Centres, throughout the country, most of which operate on a franchise basis.

In addition, Manos has taken steps to enter the convention travel field as well as the area of corporate incentives.

In 1999 its sales totalled 10.8 billion drachmas while the figure for 2000 is expected to reach 12 billion drachmas.

Autohellas` participation and the reinforcing of Manos` share capital will allow the travel company to further develop its network of centres and expand available services.

Manos Tsatsakis will remain in the post of chairman. The two firms will announce their plans in detail following approval of the agreement by the fair trading commission.

Autohellas, which has 14,000 cars and 100 outlets, expects turnover for 2000 to exceed 24 billion drachmas.
