Budapest Airport celebrates first Wizz Air flight to Dortmund

Budapest Airport celebrated the first Wizz Air flight to Dortmund, Germany on Friday. At 11:15am Wizz Air’s Airbus A320 aircraft took off from Budapest with 126 passengers on board marking what will be a maiden flight in a year round schedule between the two cities. The Hungarian-based, low-cost airline will operate two flights weekly throughout the winter schedule through to 27th March, increasing to three flights in the summer. Dortmund flights depart on Mondays and Fridays during the winter and then on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in summer.

Patrick Bohl, Head of Airline Development at Budapest Airport presented the Wizz Air flight crew with a cake to commemorate the first flight and welcomed the passenger who bought the first ticket online with a Wizz Air model aircraft.  Patrick commented: “Budapest Airport remains committed to supporting passengers and airlines in the low-cost sector and we are very pleased that Wizz Air has increased its capacity with yet another route.  The addition of Dortmund will benefit both business and leisure travellers and its year round offering presents increased flexibility for passengers. We know that Budapest is a very popular city break destination from Germany, and as one of the most visited cities in Europe. We are confident this route will do well.”

The Wizz Air Airbus A320 offers an all-economy, 180-seat cabin with the option to buy extra leg room and priority boarding on ticket purchase.

Wizz Air currently operates 23 routes from Budapest Airport.  It is the largest Central and Eastern European low cost carrier and started flights from Budapest in 2004, its first year of operation. Over the last 12 months, the airline has increased Budapest passenger numbers by 13% with over 1.3 million passengers travelling in and out of the airport.
