Glasgow Airport landed a new long-haul service, providing Scotland with a valuable connection with Pakistan for the first time.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will launch two services a week between Glasgow and Islamabad and Lahore, from 16th November. Both services stop at Dubai and seats are on sale through travel agents and through PIA’s offices in the UK.

Tariq Bukhari, PIA’s UK general manager, said: “This is a milestone both for Scotland and for Pakistan International Airlines. We look forward to developing a real presence in Glasgow.”

Stephen Baxter, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Today’s announcement is great news for Glasgow, and for Scotland as a whole. The cultural and business opportunities associated with a direct link to Pakistan are huge and this new long-haul service from Glasgow further strengthens Scotland’s international standing.

“We know from recent events in Pakistan how important a strong connection from Scotland is to the Asian community in this country, and we hope this helps at a difficult time for many people.

”I look forward to welcoming Pakistan International Airlines to Glasgow and to making a contribution to the success of these important new services.”
