The popular resort island of Rhodes experienced a rise of 13.65% in tourist traffic for the first nine months of 1999, according to a survey of tourist accommodation taken by the Dodecanese tourism secretariat.
More specifically, the number of visitors from abroad increased by 15.56% to 970,928, up from 840,209 for the same period in 1998. The figure for domestic visitors rose by a modest 1.56% to 134,538, up from 132,476.
The number of overnights for foreign tourists grew 12.99% while domestic travellers accounted for an increase of 2.7%, resulting in a total of 11.86%.
