A new airline has arrived at Heathrow – Hellas Jet, operating a daily Heathrow-Athens return service from Terminal 1. With just over a year to go till the Athens Olympic Games, this is set to become a popular route with Heathrow passengers.

Hellas Jet`s fleet consists of three new Airbus A320-232 aircraft, each carrying 148 passengers. The new airline is a subsidiary of Cyprus Airways.

Andreas Agathou, regional manager at Hellas Jet said: A new Heathrow to Athens route is great news for UK passengers, particularly with so many planning to travel to the Athens Olympics next year. Greece continues to grow in popularity, and with the added attraction of the Olympics we are set for a busy year ahead. Gaining slots at Heathrow will enable us to match this upsurge in demand with a high-quality and reliable service.

Heathrow passengers will benefit from this expansion in airline choice. Over 90 airlines currently fly from Heathrow to around 170 destinations worldwide – Hellas Jet`s Athens service will be a popular addition.

Eryl Smith, BAA Heathrow`s business strategy director said: It`s good to welcome Hellas Jet to Heathrow, we are delighted that it has chosen us for its Athens service. In what are still difficult times for the whole industry, it`s very encouraging to see an airline with such exciting plans.
