For summer 2011, Ibiza was recognised by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) as Europe’s best diving location. To celebrate this fantastic accolade, Ibiza Tourist Board has launched a dedicated diving brochure, made entirely of ‘Rock Paper’- a new 100% waterproof and tear resistant material, ideal for divers and lovers of water sports.
The newly launched diving brochure offers details on 20 of Ibiza’s best diving locations, with information on the level of difficulty, ease of access, maximum and minimum depths needed, proximity of caves and wreckages, GPS location as well as the necessity for a compass or torchlight.
Diving off the coast of Ibiza is a treat with a choice of 12 PADI associated diving centres, suitable for both beginners as well as the more advanced diver. The waters around the island are incredibly clear with visibility of between 20 and 40 metres. These crystal clear waters provide endless possibilities for viewing some of the diverse marine life that lies off the Ibicencan coast. The standard is such that in 1999, UNESCO added the extensive meadows of Neptune grass around the island to the World Heritage list, thanks to the wide range of species that reside there.
Ibiza’s underworld is an experience of intense tranquillity offering a variety of underwater landscapes that include interesting caves and historical wrecks. In the last few years Don Pedro, the merchant cargo ship that sunk off Ibiza’s main port in 2007 has recently been opened up for recreational diving and at 140m in length is the biggest of its kind in Europe.
Divers can be happy in the knowledge that the sea temperature around the island is a wonderfully mild 14°c to 28°c year round and at just 2 hours flying time from the UK provides world-class diving conditions within easy reach.
