Kuoni opened a new office in Shanghai, China today. The addition of this second office in the country underlines the strategic importance which Kuoni attaches to the Chinese market.

Kuoni has been well established in the Far East region for decades. The Kuoni Group also has long-standing relations with China`s leading tourism companies. The Group`s main markets brought some 20 000 guests to the country last year, generating total turnover of around CHF 30 million (USD 26 million). Kuoni is now seeking to achieve a closer balance between inbound and outbound activities for the Chinese market. As just one example of its strong ties with the country, Kuoni organised the first-ever trip to Europe by a Chinese tourist group under the simplified Approved Destination Status (ADS) travel provisions which were introduced last year.

With its new Shanghai office, the Kuoni Group now intends to further expand its activities in the Chinese market. In opening the new office, Kuoni aims to help promote high-quality services for the Chinese tourist sector. The Shanghai office will also enable Kuoni to intensify its own cultivation of the growing Chinese tourist market and better respond to local needs. Kuoni also hopes to see a substantial increase in outbound leisure travel to Europe among Chinese customers.

In a further development, Kuoni Travel (China) Ltd., the Kuoni Group`s Hong Kong-based subsidiary, aims to expand into mainland China. Its focus in doing so will be firmly on the Chinese domestic meeting and incentive market, and on providing ground handling services for China`s incoming business.

The new office was opened today by the local management in Shanghai. The opening ceremony and subsequent media conference were also attended by Kuoni Group representatives Reto Wilhelm, Executive Vice-President Continental Europe, Asia & Incoming, Rolf Schafroth, CEO Incoming Europe and Danny Kondic, Managing Director of Kuoni Travel (China) Ltd.
