Lufthansa boosts flight capacity to Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) and Lufthansa German Airlines announced the increase of flight capacity between Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi International Airport starting the end of October this year.

Lufthansa flights on route to Abu Dhabi will no longer continue onwards to Muscat, Oman giving full capacity of the aircraft to Abu Dhabi – Frankfurt passengers. The increase in flight capacity is Lufthansa’s second upgrade within just twelve months after introducing a daily service on the route last October, up from six weekly flights.

The decision to increase capacity came as a response to the traffic growth that is witnessed on the German- Abu Dhabi route. This year passenger traffic between Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi registered an increase by 14% compared with the same period last year.

”Lufthansa is pleased to announce increased capacity on its Abu Dhabi – Frankfurt route, which reflects the growing demand from our customers in the Abu Dhabi region, in Germany and in the rest of Europe,” said Peter Pollak, Lufthansa’s General Manager UAE and Director Gulf and Iraq. “The continued support offered to us by ADAC helps us easily accommodate our needs.”

Eng. Ahmed Al Haddabi, Chief Operating Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), commented: “We are delighted to see more services being offered to passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport. At ADAC, we are working closely with various airlines to support their development initiatives that ultimately benefit our passengers and provide them with more choices.”

“Lufthansa is one of our eldest partners at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which makes us eager to further enhance its services and offerings. We trust this development on the route between Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi will be welcomed by business and leisure travellers, mutually”  he added.

The Lufthansa flights will be operated with an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with non-stop flights to Frankfurt, departing from Abu Dhabi every day at 1.15am local time.

Lufthansa German Airlines has just been named “Best European airline serving the Middle East” in the Business Traveller Middle East Awards 2011, for the second consecutive year. The airline currently flies to 211 destinations in 84 countries, among them 13 cities in the Middle East.
