Hoteliers in the central Greek Pelion<.> peninsula are welcoming winter travellers with open arms. The Magnesia prefecture hoteliers` union said its members offer traditional Pelion hospitality in magical surrounds at reasonable prices.

Prefectural authorities are working to ensure traffic circulates smoothly in the area by keeping the roads clear of snow with the use of snowploughs.

Those who visit Pelion in winter can savour mountain tea, local yoghurt with honey and walnuts along with traditional village fare such as rabbit stew.

Pelion`s ski centre is located at Agriolefkes in Chania, at a height of 1,350 metres. The 1,500 metre complex has two comfortable chalets, three ski lifts – one of which began operating this year, a surgery and ample parking.

Day passes cost 3,000 drachmas during the week and 4,000 drachmas on weekends.

Hotel rates range from 13,000 to 35,000 drachmas a night for a double room with breakfast.
