The Easter holiday saw record numbers of tourists from abroad visiting the popular resort island of
Local tourism entrepreneurs predict that a new international arrivals record could be posted for the month of May. The Labour Day holiday`s coinciding with the Greek Orthodox Easter weekend was the main reason for the recent increase in tourist traffic. Around 7,000 Greeks also flew to Rhodes for the holiday, the largest number in the last 10 years. The majority of domestic visitors had made group bookings through a travel agent.
Local businessman believe that a promotional campaign undertaken by both state bodies and the private sector contributed to the boost in tourist numbers.
