Robust growth continues for Finnair

Finnair traffic, measured in passenger kilometers, increased by 10.5% in July, while the capacity was up by 8.3%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 78.7% or 1.6 points higher than last year. All Finnair Group airlines altogether transported 703,700 passengers, which is 10.1% more than a year ago. Number of passengers in scheduled international traffic grew as much as 16.1%.



Finnair scheduled traffic increased by 9.8% compared to July last year. Passenger load factor was 75.4%, up 3.1 percentage points. Number of passengers carried was 550,000, up 9.7%.



Leisure traffic rose by 12.3% and passenger number by 11.7%. Passenger load factor descended 4.6 percentage points to 89.1%.



Finnair`s Tallinn-based subsidiary Aero AS, carried 44,700 passengers (+405.8%) on routes between Helsinki and the Baltic capitals and within Southern Finland. During July, Stockholm-based flynordic continued to gain market share and carried 95,900 passengers (+212.6%). Aero and flynordic figures are respectively included in Finnair Group total figures.



Arrival punctuality of Finnair scheduled flights was 91.6% and that of all operations was 89.9%. According to the statistics by Association of European Airlines, Finnair is the European number one in arrival punctuality.



Scheduled traffic

  • In scheduled traffic (international + domestic) revenue passenger kilometres increased by 9.8%. The change in capacity was +5.4%. Passenger load factor was 75.4%, 3.1 percentage points higher than last year.
  • In scheduled international traffic, total number of passengers was up by 16.1%. Capacity in ASKs was +6.5%, while RPKs increased by 11.3%.
  • In European scheduled traffic, ASKs increased by 8.2%, and as RPKs increased by 13.5%, the passenger load factor was 71.5%, up 3.3 points from previous year.
  • In North Atlantic scheduled traffic, capacity was on last year`s level. Change in RPKs was -2.1%, and passenger load factor for July was 87.2%, 1.9 points lower than previous year.
  • In Asian scheduled traffic, capacity increase was 5.9%. The passenger traffic was up by 12.7%. Passenger load factor was 80.3%, 4.9 percentage points up.
  • Domestic scheduled traffic decreased by 13.7% on a capacity decrease of 8.9%. Passenger load factor decreased by 3.2 percentage points to 57.4%.


Leisure traffic

  • ASKs for leisure traffic increased in July by 18.1%, and RPKs increased by 12.3%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 89.1%, 4.6 points lower than last year.


Cargo

  • Cargo traffic increased by 9.7% in terms of cargo tonnes carried. Growth in scheduled traffic was +6.2%. Increase in Asian traffic was 15.9%. Volume in European traffic decreased by 3.0%. In North-Atlantic traffic cargo volume increased by 3.3%. Cargo traffic carried on chartered cargo flights increased by 41.6%. The cargo load factor was 59.0%. The cargo load factor in the Far Eastern traffic was 71.8% and in the North Atlantic traffic 70.3%.
