St. Lucia – An exciting year ahead

It’s certainly an exciting year ahead for St. Lucia. The island is gearing up to host the England team in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup

It’s certainly an exciting year ahead for St. Lucia. The island is gearing up to host the England team in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup and is delighted to announce the opening of numerous properties to accommodate the estimated 21,000 international visitors to the island during this period. St. Lucia’s arts and culture is also set to shine with the launch of a new World Music Festival, Kalalu in December 2005, hot on the heels of the successful St. Lucia Jazz.

This year also sees the St Lucia Tourist Board’s new advertising campaign launching at WTM. The global campaign has been created by a Canadian company, The Backroom Agency, who was appointed last year. Peter Hilary Modeste, Director of Tourism, St Lucia said:

“Our new advertising campaign is based around consumer research on why people come to St Lucia. We found that people were enchanted with the beauty of the Island and the new campaign reinforces St Lucia’s status as one of the most picturesque in the Caribbean by showcasing its natural diversity in a unique and attention grabbing way.”

The execution of the campaign in the UK will see the advertising appearing in print, on radio, on outdoor sites and potentially on TV. Make sure you visit the stand to be one of the first to see the spectacular photography and enticing imagery.

As cricket mania reaches fever pitch in the UK, we get a glimpse of what’s yet to come in the run up to the Cricket World Cup. St. Lucia’s impressive Beausejour Stadium is currently being expanded to hold 20,000 spectators, who will be witnessing the six opening round matches and a semi-final.

In line with these exciting developments, we are proud to announce a series of property openings on St. Lucia. These include the 24 Infinity Suites at Anse Chastanet, scheduled to open in Winter 2005. Almond Morgan Bay Beach Resort will be the next development to open its doors on November 15th 2005. Plantation on Cotton Bay (Sunswept resorts), opening early 2006, will be the first resort on the island’s northern Atlantic shore. The new Discovery at Marigot Bay property is set to open in February. Whilst the new Coconut Bay Resort & Spa, which opened in March 2005, featuring St. Lucia’s first water park complete with waterfalls and water slides has proved a hit with adults and children alike.

Further developments include The Landings, which will be the country’s first private marina and leisure development and Sapphire Cove, Premiere Corporation’s new luxury five star project, will provide much needed rental accommodations for the influx of visitors during the World Cup. Director of the St. Lucia Tourist Board, Hilary Modeste said:

“England’s recent win has re-ignited passion for the game and we’re looking forward to welcoming even higher than predicted numbers of over-sea fans to St. Lucia. Improvements are being made to the island’s infrastructure, particularly to the road networks to cater efficiently for large numbers of visitors. 2006 is going to be a really exciting year for us in the run up to the World Cup”.

December 1st-4th 2005, will witness the launch of the Caribbean’s first World Music Festival, Kalalu set to rock St. Lucia with an eclectic mix of African street songs, smooth contemporary Jazz, salsa rhythms and Latin funk, produced by internationally acclaimed artists. The main stage is set on one of the Island’s most stunning beaches in Choc Bay, where music lovers can soak up the sounds at this breathtaking venue.

St. Lucia Jazz continues to pull in the crowds with this year’s headliner, UB40 making a show-stopping return to the stage. Next year, St Lucia Jazz takes place between 5th May -14th May and promises to be just as big in drawing in the crowds.
