The deciding factor has mainly been Stockholm`s strong track record in organising large international events. Stockholm was chosen over Barcelona as the venue for the Annual Congress of the European Respiratory Society, the third largest European medical congress. Returning to the Swedish capital for the third time in September 2007, the event is expected to draw approximately 15,000 delegates and up to 200 exhibitors.
“We are very proud that so many international events have chosen Stockholm. We have a flexible venue, which is well suited for hosting large-scale congresses with an exhibition running simultaneously”, says Bjorn Delin, Manager International Marketing of Stockholm International Fairs. “Whether it`s an exhibition with a conference or a congress that includes an exhibition, we tend to find the best possible solution.”
Other high-profile congresses with parallel exhibitions that will use Stockholm International Fairs as a venue in the future is the Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Europe Conference in 2006, the FDI World Dental Association Annual Congress in 2008, as well as the European Federation of Periodontology, EUROPERIO, in 2009.
In October this year Stockholm International Fairs hosted the European Society of Cardiology Congress and Exhibition for the fourth time, the largest medical event in Europe with approximately 24,000 delegates and some 170 exhibitors.
Stockholm International Fairs (Stockholmsmässan) is the Nordic and Baltic region`s fair and congress organiser. Its annual programme contains approximately 80 different events. It also host a large number of international and domestic congresses, conferences and other events. Nearly 10,000 companies worldwide participate in its events yearly with attendance figures of approximately 1.5 million visitors.
