1.2 million tourists entered Israel between January and July 2006, 13 per cent more than during the same period one year ago. The majority, 332,600, entered the country from the United States, 24 per cent more than in the first seven months of 2005.
Increases were also registered in the number of visitors arriving from Scandinavia (+24 per cent), Italy (+14 per cent), Russia (+32 per cent) and other countries over the same period.
In July alone, tourist arrivals from most countries slowed.
