NEW YORK – Montauk, located at the easternmost point of Long Island, is the most expensive summer destination in New York State. That’s according to a recent survey from NewYorkHotels.org, which compared 20 main destinations in the state of New York based on the cost of their lodging.
For each destination, the survey established the average rate a guest will have to spend during the month of August to stay in the most affordable double room. Only such hotels or inns that were rated at least 3 stars and that were well located close to the beach or city center have been included in the rankings.
With an average rate of $342 per night, Montauk leads the rankings. Its neighbor, East Hampton, ranks second most expensive with an only slightly less expensive average nightly rate of $332. Saratoga Springs rounds out the Top 3 with an average overnight cost of $312.
The least expensive destination in New York State is Watertown, where travelers should be able to find a room for less than $100 per night, according to the survey. New York City ranks eighth most expensive, with an average price of $153 per night for the least expensive double room.
