Most wanted holiday destinations for 2014 revealed from sunshine.co.uk

A new study by an online travel agency in the UK has revealed which destinations could be the most popular in 2014 for holidays, based on where people have said they’d like to travel to the most. Furthermore, where Britons get their holiday inspiration from has been revealed.

The holiday destinations that Britons most want to visit in 2014 have been revealed in a poll by an online independent travel agency, with Cape Verde, Brazil and Morocco all featuring at the top of the list. What’s more, 66% of Britons have said that they’ll be looking to go on holiday to a destination they’ve never been to before in 2014, as opposed to somewhere they are familiar with.

A new study by an online travel agency in the UK has revealed which destinations could be the most popular in 2014 for holidays, based on where people have said they’d like to travel to the most. Furthermore, where Britons get their holiday inspiration from has been revealed.

sunshine.co.uk has already received bookings for holidays in 2014, with resorts such as Benidorm, Sharm el Sheikh and Costa Adeje in Tenerife all proving to be popular choices. However, the online travel agency decided to poll members of the British public in a bid to uncover which destinations people were thinking of visiting on holiday next year.

1,792 people from around the UK took part in the poll, each aged 18 and over. All respondents had been on holiday in the last 12 months. 11% of those taking part said that they had already booked their holiday for 2014, whilst 64% said that they were planning on going on holiday abroad, but hadn’t booked anything yet.

When those who were planning on going on holiday abroad in 2014 but hadn’t booked yet were questioned further and asked where they were considering going (and told they could state more than one answer), the most popular answers given by respondents were as follows:

1. Cape Verde – 31%
2. Brazil – 26%
3. Morocco – 23%
4. Sicily – 21%
5. Madeira – 18%
6. Mexico – 16%
7. USA – 12%
8. Turkey – 9%
9. Ibiza -5%
10. New Zealand – 4%

When asked if in 2014 they’d be looking to visit somewhere they’d already been to on holiday, or somewhere completely new (in terms of country), two thirds, 66%, said they’d be looking to book a new destination for their 2014 holiday.

When asked where they were most likely to pull inspiration from when looking to decide on a holiday destination, ‘recommendations from friends’ was revealed to be the most popular source of inspiration for 47% of respondents; following by ‘TV programmes’ (35%) and ‘travel reviews/ publications’ (30%).

Everyone was asked how many holidays they thought they’d realistically be going on in 2014, to which the most common answer was ‘2’, according to 54% of respondents.

Chris Clarkson, Managing Director of sunshine.co.uk, said the following about the poll: “It’s really encouraging to see that most people think they’ll be able to make it on two holidays in 2014. Even though we have had a number of bookings for 2014 holidays, we wanted to find out where it was that people really wanted to visit next year.

“It appears that the up and coming destinations are Cape Verde, Brazil, Morocco and Sicily and it’s not hard to see why; as all offer great weather, amazing scenery and plenty of activities. To see Brazil at number two in the list must have something to do with the World Cup. Only time will tell what the most popular destinations of next year will be!”
