Ottawa Tourism confirms 2019 European business development event following CAD$2.2m success in 2018

The 2019 event will take place from 21-23 June at Gleneagles and will once again feature a variety of leisure, hospitality and educational activities.

Ottawa Tourism has confirmed a European buyer event at Gleneagles in Scotland following the success of its 2018 event, which has already seen two association bids confirmed and a further four actively considering Canada’s capital for their next event.

The 2018 event has already delivered in excess of CAD$2.2 million in economic impact to Ottawa as well as the development of other relationships, which have led to site inspections, bids and potential new business for the city.

The 2019 event will take place from 21-23 June at Gleneagles and will once again feature a variety of leisure, hospitality and educational activities aimed to change perceptions of Ottawa and help organisers understand the city’s “same but different” mentality and ethos.

Speaking about last year’s event Simon Gaskin, secretary general of the International Association of Institutes of Navigators, commented: “The event provided a chance to get to know a wide variety of new people, receive some great education and experience something different in a beautiful setting. In particular, the cross-section of attendees – from the travel trade to association executives and event planners – provided an opportunity to develop new business relationships and friendships that I hope will prove beneficial in both the short and long term.

We wanted to do something different and this event proved that taking risks can pay off in a huge way – in this case with an ROI of more than 700%,” concludes Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “Association business takes time, it requires long term relationships and a desire to look years into the future. Our first European client event in 2018 broke new ground in terms of showcasing a destination but above all else it worked.  Ottawa is focused on changing perceptions in Europe, our sector specific targeting is delivering great results and we have developed intrigue, interest and excitement amongst buyers that is turning into tangible business.”
