Passenger growth continues in Berlin: +8 per cent in Schonefeld and Tegel

During the first two months of the year, a total of 3,586,923 passengers used the airports Schonefeld and Tegel; representing a year-on-year increase of 7.9 per cent.

In February, 1,829,943 passengers took off and landed at the Berlin airports Schonefeld and Tegel; 7.9 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. In the first month of the year, 475,330 passengers (+7.7 per cent) were recorded in Schonefeld and 1,354,613 passengers (+8.0 per cent) in Tegel.

Hartmut Mehdorn, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Passenger growth is continuing at the Berlin airports, with figures in February also rising sharply by almost 8 per cent. We are delighted that our core business is continuing to perform very well.”

The total number of flight movements in February rose by 6.9 per cent on the year to 17,721 take-offs and landings. The number of flight movements in Schonefeld rose to 4,819 – 7.2 per cent more than in the previous year – while the number of flight movements in Tegel increased by 6.8 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 12,902 flight movements were recorded in Tegel in the first month of the year.

2,665,260 passengers were recorded in Tegel in January and February; 8.8 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. At the same time, 921,663 passengers were handled in Schonefeld; 5.6 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.

The total number of flight movements in January and February rose by 4.9 per cent on the year to 35,210 take-offs and landings. The number of flight movements in Schonefeld rose to 9,557 – 2.8 per cent more than in the previous year – while the number of flight movements in Tegel increased by 5.8 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 25,653 flight movements were recorded in Tegel in the first two months of the year.

Schonefeld and Tegel Airport recorded 3,132 tonnes of air freight in February; 40.5 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.
