Italy named best for food, Greece comes second for beaches. Spain and Greece share the top spot in the ‘friendliest locals’ category, both gaining 12% of the vote, followed by Malta with 10%. Portugal was named the third best for its friendly locals with 8%.
Spain and its islands has been named the best holiday destination in the world in a survey conducted leading holiday beach specialist On the Beach.
The survey of 1,000 sun-seeking Brits voted Spain number one in the ‘best overall’ category gaining 19% of the vote. With Italy coming in a close second with 15%.
The survey also revealed that whilst Euro 2016 host nation France, is the world’s most popular holiday destination receiving the most visitors to its shores each year, it only came in third place in this survey with 9% of the vote. Spain and Greece share the top spot in the ‘friendliest locals’ category, both gaining 12% of the vote, followed by Malta with 10%. Portugal was named the third best for its friendly locals with 8%.
Spain reigns once again in the ‘best night out’ category with one in four holidaymakers naming Spain the best destination for a night on the town. Greece was named the second best destination for a night out with 8% of the vote, followed by France with 7%.
The survey revealed Spain as the top destination in the ‘best beaches’ category with almost a quarter (23%) voting for Spain, with Greece named the second best with 14%. The Portuguese Algarve region which is home to more than 80 Blue Flag beaches came in third spot, with 10% of the vote.
The only category in which Spain lost its top spot was in the ‘best food’ category which was won by Italy with 25% of the vote. Spain, famous for its Paella came in second place in the foodie category with 12% of the vote, followed by France with 11%.
