Twenty years of IBC at the RAI

IBC features over 1,300 exhibitors from more than 160 countries showcasing the latest (technical) developments in the field of electronic media and entertainment.

Over the coming days (from 6-11 September) Amsterdam will be home to the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC). Amsterdam RAI is hosting the 45th year of this prestigious exhibition, which has developed into the largest annual trade event to take place in the Dutch capital.

Commercial Director Maurits van der Sluis of Amsterdam RAI is proud to welcome the event again: “IBC is a well-known phenomenon in Amsterdam, and this year we’ll be celebrating 20 years of IBC in Amsterdam. Since 1992, the exhibition concept and size have made IBC our largest and most challenging client. Each September sees Amsterdam RAI operating at full speed to host the spectacular event. This year, for example, we have partnered with De Boer Tents to realise over 7,600 square metres of top quality mobile exhibition space in order to create sufficient room for all the IBC exhibitors. Moreover, the nature of the sector requires us to deliver the very latest in state-of-the-art ICT technology throughout.”

Impact on Amsterdam
At the same time IBC also has a huge economic impact beyond the walls of the RAI. IBC features over 1,300 exhibitors from more than 160 countries showcasing the latest (technical) developments in the field of electronic media and entertainment.

“They in turn attract up to 50,000 professionals who stay in the Dutch capital for several days,” continues Van der Sluis. “This is a great example of how Amsterdam RAI serves as an economic force for the entire city of Amsterdam.”

Ecorys research has shown that every ‘international’ euro spent in the RAI equals seven euros spent in the region. This means that the RAI contributes approximately 700 million euros to the Amsterdam economy each year.

IBC will take place until Tuesday 11 September in all halls of Amsterdam RAI, including Halls 13 and 14 that have been erected on the square in front of the RAI and in the courtyard. The IBC event therefore makes optimal use of the entire RAI complex.
