WestJet connects sea to sea this summer

Airline now offering non-stop service between Halifax and Vancouver.

CALGARY – WestJet announced that it will introduce seasonal non-stop service to Halifax from Vancouver and Winnipeg beginning June 29, 2016.

WestJet is the only airline in Canada offering non-stop flights to Halifax from Vancouver and Winnipeg. We are introducing these routes on a seasonal basis to allow WestJet the opportunity to test the market while providing our guests more choice and convenience along with our low-fare, high-care service,” said Lee Lipton, WestJet Director, Network and Schedule Planning. “We are well positioned for success with the high travel demand during the summer season. We continue to look for opportunities to better serve our guests as market demand permits.

With the addition of these new routes, WestJet now offers 23 daily flights on 13 routes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport, 28 daily flights on 13 routes from Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and 65 daily flights on 29 routes from Vancouver International Airport.

Flights will be operated on WestJet’s Boeing 737 aircraft featuring the recently enhanced Plus product and WestJet Connect. Flights from Vancouver to Halifax begin June 29, 2016 and will operate four times weekly until September 3, 2016. Flights from Winnipeg to Halifax begin July 2, 2016 and will operate four times weekly until September 6, 2016. Flights have been timed to connect conveniently to WestJet’s Halifax and Vancouver hubs from its extensive domestic network.

With the departure of flight 3600, WestJet Encore inaugurated new service between Toronto and Boston, the newest addition to WestJet’s growing network. The new service will operate three times daily on WestJet Encore’s fleet of Canadian-made Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft.

WestJet Encore is pleased to begin flying year-round between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport,” said Ferio Pugliese, President, WestJet Encore. “Our flight to Boston marks our first trans-border route and represents another step in the growth and evolution of WestJet Encore. Massport welcomes WestJet to Logan Airport,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “WestJet joins Logan’s long list of international carriers, and this flight provides another way for our customers to travel to and from Canada.

In less than three years, WestJet Encore has gone from two aircraft and ten daily departures to 28 aircraft and over 130 daily departures serving 33 cities including Boston. In June, WestJet Encore will also launch service to Nashville, Tennessee.
