New survey reveals the priciest destinations in Florida for hotels

A comparison of hotel rates in 30 destinations in Florida.

Marco Island, a barrier island located close to the city of Naples, is the most expensive destination in Florida for hotel stays, according to a new survey by CheapHotels.org.

The survey compared hotel rates across 30 popular Florida destinations for the period February-March 2023 – typically the high season for most destinations in the Sunshine State.

In Marco Island, travelers will have to spend an average of $439 per night for the most affordable double room. Only hotels located close to the beach (or in downtown) and rated at least 3 stars were considered for the survey.

Sarasota and West Palm Beach rank as the second and third most expensive destinations, with average rates of $435 and $425, respectively. Significantly more affordable is Miami Beach , with an average rate of $185 per night – more than 50% cheaper than the priciest beach destinations.

With an average rate of $145 per night, the state capital of Tallahassee came out as one of the least expensive destinations. Cheapest overall were Panama City Beach and around Disney World in Kissimmee, where you can find a room for around $100 per night.

Compared to 2018, when the equivalent data was last collected, hotel rates in Florida are up by about 20% on average. Sarasota (+59%) and West Palm Beach (+63%) show the biggest price increase, while rates in certain destinations such as Downtown Miami (-5%) or Panama City Beach (-4%) have creeped down.

The following table compares 30 Florida destinations. The prices indicated reflect the average rate for the cheapest available double room (in a minimum 3-star hotel) at each property for the period spanning February 1 through March 31, 2023.

The survey was conducted at the end of January 2023 using hotel comparison website Kayak. For 30 popular destinations in Florida, the average price for the cheapest available double room in a hotel or inn was established for the months of February and March. Only hotels located close to the beach, or in the city center/downtown were considered for the survey. Moreover, only hotels rated at least 3 stars and with positive average customer reviews (at least “good” on Kayak) were also considered. Please note some popular destinations in Northern Florida (e.g. Pensacola Beach and Miramar Beach) reach their peak season during the summer months.
