The destination agency is witnessing a very strong demand for holidays on Aphrodite’s home island. Double-digit percentage increases in visitors from many source markets could make summer 2023 a record period.

MUNICH – The pandemic is under control and inflation also appears to be far away: Cyprus is enjoying a rush of visitors this summer. “From a few source markets, we are registering double-digit percentage increases in visitors to the island”, says Mario Habig, FTI Group CEO DMCs. “Established markets such as Germany, France, Austria and the UK have continued to grow significantly and there is also a run in the newer markets.” As a result, demand for holidays in the home of Aphrodite has skyrocketed – particularly in Eastern Europe. “We have a significantly higher number of guests this summer from Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Armenia and Romania, to name but a few,” Habig said.

“The word is spreading about Cyprus as an excellent holiday destination,” says Meeting Point Hellas & Cyprus CEO Manos Drakonakis. “Fantastic beaches, a versatile cuisine, cultural attractions to discover and a wide range of sport activities like golfing, biking or wreck diving appeal to many different types of holidaymakers. In addition, Cyprus offers a particularly long summer and mild winters. “The success story of the holiday island will continue when elsewhere the loungers are already being put into storage,” predicts Drakonakis.

Starry hours at the planetarium excursion

Meeting Point Cyprus has added a new day trip to its program for holidaymakers. Every Friday, the incoming agency takes its guests into the history of the country and far beyond. The program includes a visit to Nicosia – the divided capital – including a border crossing and a visit to the caravanserai and the old market, as well as a trip to the recently opened planetarium as a highlight. The facility is the largest in the eastern Mediterranean and offers visitors insights into distant galaxies as well as a mix of entertainment and information in 360-degree films, with virtual reality and broadcasts from other observatories around the world. The excursion “From the past to the future” is rounded off by a visit to a historic village and a typical Cypriot lunch and a stop at a traditional kafenion.
